Behavioral Persistence in Captive Bears: A Critique

This paper questions empirical results reported in Vickery and Mason (2003) that the presence of stereotypy behavior impedes learning adaptation and might render captive bears unable to adapt quickly to environmental change when reintroduced to the wild. Vickery and Mason’s paper was shown to have a flawed research design and inappropriate methodology.
