This facility
is close to Bangkok and accepts animals confiscated by authorities
under wildlife protection laws. It is a first-stop dropping off
point where the animal receives professional care and veterinary
treatment until it can be relocated into existing Wildlife Centres
operated by the Department of National Parks, Wildlife &
Plant Conservation after its health status and behaviour has
been determined.
The types of animals received are usually those that are currently
under attack from commercial traffickers. Bears are typical as
they are being hunted for the traditional Chinese medicine trade,
while monkeys and gibbons are sold into the exotic pet and tourist
trade. Small cats, civets and reptiles are also subject to exploitation.
Operated by local staff and specialist foreign volunteers, the
public are welcome to visit the animals and better understand
Thailand's efforts to protect its native habitats by seeing our
visual display. An interesting day out in the rural countryside
is guaranteed, with the facility's location just 20km along the
coast road from the tourist city of Pattaya.
